Site Reliability Engineering: Culture & Metrics

In the recent monthly Cairo Kubernetes Meetup, Magalix CTO and Co-founder, Ahmed Badran, explained the relationship between DevOps and site reliability engineers (SRE), gave practical advice about how to think about system reliability, and discussed the culture and metrics around system reliability. 

It was a live session where he talked about the relationship between DevOps and SRE. He also gave practical advice on how to think about system reliability. 

In the Meetup, Badran discussed: 

• Developers vs Operators: their roles, key responsibilities, and the end goals. 
• The DevOps Culture and the key elements that shape and drive it. 
• What is Site Reliability Engineering and how does it relate to DevOps?
• Metrics: 

1. 1. Service Level Indicator (SLI).

   2. Service Level Objectives (SLO). 

   3. Service Level Agreement (SLA).

   4. Availability and how it can be measured.

   5. Scalability and the various metrics used to measure them.

• Resources: Some resources to help the audience learn more about SRE and the metrics.
• Q&A: an open-ended Q&A session

About the Speaker

Ahmed Badran is the CTO and Co-Founder of Magalix Corporation.  He comes with a wealth of experience in all that is cloud. He worked at AWS back in its early days, Disney, Blue Origin, Limelight Networks, and Agilysys.

It’s a monthly virtual event, driven by Magalix, for all the Kubernauts in Cairo and the Middle East.
