culture and much more
As a 100% remote company with multiple geographically dispersed offices, Magalix employees don’t always get a chance to bond and enjoy themselves in an environment outside of the virtual world and home offices.
And that’s why Magalix planned a team-building one-day event to facilitate bonding between all Magalixers, reduce stress, and give every Magalixer a chance to know one another better outside of our virtual offices.
The team-building event took place at JW Marriott, in New Cairo, Egypt, in an open air field. In attendance were both the CEO and CTO, Mohamed F. Ahmed and Ahmed Badran, and the Engineering and Marketing team. The day was sunny and warm, a typical fall day in Cairo, perfect for a whole day outdoor event.
This was the first team-building event for many Magalixers. All of the employees were gifted a Magalix t-shirt and then a fun day of outdoor activities began!
The theme of all the team-building activities that day was collaboration and trust, organized and led by GoBeyond Training.
“I really enjoyed the day to the max! In the startup world, being a part of a dynamic and fast-paced small group, we definitely need the two most important ingredients in the mix; Trust and Collaboration. I think the game ideas were deep and helped highlight those aspects in a fun and colorful manner.”
Sarah Boctor - SW Lead
Split into 4 teams, Magalixers were assigned the simple task of building a bridge using bamboo sticks, tie wraps, u-shape plastic pipes. After each team assembled their own bridge, the 4 teams were asked to connect the 4 individual bridges into one long bridge. The goal? A sturdy bridge that would enable a ball to flow slide freely from the beginning of the bridge to the very end.
Deemed fun by all, the bridge building mimicked the different facets of our organization. Individual teams perform their own tasks and in the very end, all teams must come together to fulfil the organization’s end goal - building a great product.
Split into two competing teams, Magalixers were given a picture of a puzzle and asked to recreate it with numbered, hole-filled wooden sticks. The teams were asked to work together and recreate the man-sized puzzle. Collaboration here was key to getting the puzzle done and winning the game.
“The points that touched my heart today are how to improve my work-life by finding the right balance and communicating better with my teammates. It also helped me point out my weak points and what I need to do more to improve; either on a personal or professional level”
Ahmed Atef - Marketing Operations Manager
A simple activity with just a rope, involved trust, squats, and a lot of fun. Magalixers were split into two teams and formed a circle. With everyone holding the rope, individuals were asked to squat while maintaining their hold on the rope, trusting everyone else in their team to not let them down. Thankfully no one fell or released their grip on the rope and there was tons of laughter.
The last activity of the day involved a barrel, some wooden sticks, a mirror, a hook, and many other things. Once again, Magalixers were split into teams and asked to work together (not against each other) in retrieving items from the barrel using sticks. Some innovative and crazy ideas came up, and together the two teams enjoyed retrieving some odd objects from the barrel.
“Trust and Collaboration were today’s key points. The main reason why we invest in Team Building Events is getting an opportunity to understand how people think - how they work together to achieve certain goals - the collaboration and diverse mindsets that help shape their characters and the decisions they make in the daily race. I always recall the Formula One Pit team example; the best practice of collaboration and teamwork performance i.e. the fastest performance recorded is 1.9 seconds!”
Mohamed Ahmed - CEO, Co-founder
After a fun-packed day of activities, the Magalix team enjoyed an early lunch, followed by some announcements by the leadership team, and an interactive discussion with everyone involved.
“The basis of any great company is definitely great people. The important takeaway of the team building event is the end of dayside discussions between team members that ensure, concludes, and reflects the activities goals in comparison with the daily ordeals we handle in the work-life.”
Ahmed Badran - CTO, and Co-founder
It was a live session where he talked about the relationship between DevOps and SRE and he gave practical advice on how to think about system reliability.
let’s take a look at some of the 2021 highlights for Magalixers. It’s been a great year filled with a lot of fun, learning, many product releases, team events and gatherings, and more.
